Nigerian Pastors in the UK...
I think this is for the guys outside Nigeria mostly (even though everyones thoughts are welcome)....
I was talking to a friend of mine about a christian conference I was going to attend in London this year (June 18 actually). This conference is been organised by Covenant Christian Centre (Lagos, Nigeria). One of the responses I got to that information was that Nigerian pastors or ministers have a very bad reputation of coming into the UK and raising funds especially when they are 'broke'.
What do you think about this? How can the reputation be cleaned up (if you think there is a bad reputation out there already?)

This is an interesting question. While it is true that this has been the case in many quarters, I think it causes one to raise the question what is all the fund raising for in the first place.
I believe that he who who is ministered to in word should of his own substance minister in kind back. It is a show of appreciation and an encouragement to the minister. If this is not being done, I seriously wonder why?
One must also consider a school of thought about what we have been calling "full-time" ministry. Paul met dry periods in his ministry and turned to tent making to meet his needs. Not so our day and age. There is much supplication and virtually begging when things go dry. Why??? What is wrong in a minister getting a job even if it be part-time? Or is it a pompous show of faith to prove to people that "God meets my needs!"
It is time that we got real with issues and about time we started understanding the gospel of Christ and not playing some dead religious ritualism that is deadening the church.
I agree with wailor, i believe it's just a "show of pompous faith" and this is the result.
I was oppourtuned to be at a gathering in London where a prominent Nigerian preacher came to speak, and i noticed at the end of his speech an offering was taking but the look on people's face was clear they didnt find it interesting.
I believe it's high time this stops,it's bad enough the name 'JESUS CHRIST PLC' is being used to clasify these preachers.
I pray the LOG falls off their eyes so they can see clearly. adding
